So Harlan Dexter has by the end of the movie successfully had his real daughter killed off and the police have closed the case as a kidnapping gone wrong. My husband thinks maybe they're being meta and purposefully created the plot hole but I'm not so sure. I immediately re-watched parts of the movie afterwards to see if I had missed some crucial plot twist but I couldn't find anything to explain the whole climactic third act. Okay, now I have only just watched this film for the first time today but can't stop thinking that the whole of the last part of the film makes no sense.
